Acupuncture 針灸
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese healing method of stimulating specific anatomical points or acupuncture points of the body to treat disease, relieve pain or strengthen the body’s immune system. It is performed by inserting needles in one or more of the 2,000 acupuncture points, which are precisely predetermined for the treatment of the specific symptoms. Acupuncture points conduct energy also known as qi (“chi”) between the body’s internal organs and the surface of the body. Stimulating these points provides different effects to the qi that passes through them. The points are meant to correct the imbalance of the flow of qi. The balance of qi results in good health.
Scalp Acupuncture 頭針
The scalp has multiple acupuncture points that correlate with other parts of the body, such as stomach, bladder, gallbladder, etc. Needles are inserted in the scalp at acupuncture points that correspond with the ailments of that part of the body. Scalp acupuncture is used to treat many different conditions including neurological disorders and central nervous system disorders.
Auricular Acupuncture 耳針
Acupuncture needles may be placed in the ear, like other parts of the body. Traditionally, the ear is seen as a microsystem of the entire body. As such, points on the ear correspond with certain parts of the body. Acupuncture needles are inserted into points on the ear in order to treat ailments for the corresponding body parts. Auricular (ear) acupuncture can also be used to relieve pain, as well as other conditions. Alternative to inserting needles, ear seeds may be used in order to stimulate the acupuncture points on the ear for a longer period of time. The seeds are taped onto the ear with a small piece of adhesive and can be used for treatment for up to one week.
Abdominal Acupuncture 臍針
Abdominal acupuncture is a microsystem acupuncture. Similar to ear and scalp acupuncture, abdominal acupuncture works on the same theory that the abdomen and navel area has points related to the entire body. Stimulating special points on the meridians on the abdomen, using traditional meridian systems, provides immediate relief to the patient.
The aim of abdominal acupuncture is to harmonize, adjust, and rebalance the body and mind. This increases energy and blood flow, allowing the body to become harmonized. Since energy flows of the entire body are focused in the navel area, all parts of the body can be treated by this technique. It is a particularly powerful tool in treating chronic long-term diseases and problems that result in joint and muscle pain.
Tongue Diagnosis 舌診
One of the ways patients are diagnosed in Traditional Chinese Medicine is by looking at their tongue. The tongue has points on it that corresponds with certain organs in the body. By looking at the patient's tongue, the acupuncturist can make a better diagnosis. Some of the factors that the acupuncturist will look at are the shape, size, color, and coating of the tongue, the combination of the factors helps to determine the patient's condition.
Pulse Diagnosis 脈診
Another method of diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine is pulse diagnosis. Different pulses correlate with different organs. The strength, quality, and speed of the pulses can indicate conditions within the internal organs. Palpitation of the wrist may also be used to determine any blockage of qi within the body.
